Paid stroll garden. Go early for the bamboo approach, then let the tea room slow the day down.
The visit works best when Tenryu-ji, the bamboo grove, the Mt. Ogura garden loop, matcha pause, and Arashiyama river finish are planned together.

The best part of Arashiyama after the bamboo crowds. The entry fee felt worth it because the garden finally gave us space, quiet paths, and matcha at the end.
April 2026Do not rush this as a bamboo grove add-on. The villa buildings, moss edges, maple paths, and viewpoint make more sense when you slow down.
March 2026Beautiful and quieter than expected. Some paths are uneven, so it may not be ideal for strollers, but the tea room break was lovely.
